Water Hydrant
Water Hydrant March 17, 2004
This shot was taken yesterday and would probably had remained unposted for a while were it not for today's photo on Mike's site. The coincidence spooked me so much that I had to post this today.

I took the shot as I too like these signs as objects of curiosity. Mine doesn't have the lovely texture of Mike's but I like the complimentary colours and the care taken not to paint the sign brown.

My post was also going to be an explanation of what these signs mean. Although mine was to be slightly different to Mike's. I've always thought that the hydrant was 4ft from the wall and 1ft down. Doesn't make sense now I think of it though and a little Googling confirms Mike is right.

Hi Jake,
I was trawling google for images of water hydrants - have just taken some myself - and came across yours. Was wondering if you would give me permission to use the image in a sreen print as part of a mixed media work. I'm a mature student doing a foundation art and design course in Bristol. Regards. Lucy Coates
P.S I liked your image because it WAS so textural. Curious to look at Mike's now!
