The Millenium Bridge on Newcastle's Quayside. In my opinion much better than
London's effort, which oost a riciculous £18 million pounds. Is that before or after they spent £5 mill fixing the wobble!? Who makes these prices up I wonder?
Ok, so Newcastle's cost £22 million but it's a one-of-kind engineering masterpiece. Called the "blinking eye" because it rotates to allow bridges under and costs £3.60 to open each time, using engines with the power of two Ferarris.
You can just see the ghosts of two people who spent a moment to admire it before crossing.

That is indeed some impressive engineering. I wonder if we've reached an apex with function following form? Some of the designs for the WTC monument in NYC exhibit similar flourish, stretching the bounds of materials and methods for the sake of a curve or wall of glass... never mind the absurd impracticality of some such designs. ;-)
And, nice shot. :-) I like the colouring, especially highlighting the tension wires.

Hello, this is so impressing. I would dream of seeing an image like this. Where is this located?
Dear Mr Howlett
We are very impressed by the picture of this bridge and just wondered whether we could have permission to use it on our website? Please advise if any fees will be incurred.
Kind regards
